On October 5th, Yerevan witnessed an inspiring event, the Alzheimer’s Walk, aimed at raising awareness and support for those affected by Alzheimer’s disease. Starting at 11 a.m., participants from various walks of life gathered at Moscovyan Street, ready to take the symbolic walk to Republic Square. Among them were both elderly and young participants, medical students from multiple universities, and members from diverse organizations, all uniting for a common cause.
Everything looked very coordinated as every participant got an Alzheimer’s Care Armenia (ACA) T-shirt and walked through the heart of the city to encourage another generation of Armenians about the issues that the elderly of their nation face. The team handed out flyers filled with vital information about Alzheimer’s disease, emphasizing the importance of early detection and care for those affected. This event has not only raised awareness but also sparked conversations among passersby, turning a regular day in Yerevan into an educational and impactful experience.
This year, we also partnered with a fellow healthcare NGO, BIL Armenia for which the Alzheimer’s Walk received support as their volunteers played a crucial role in making the event a success. From organizing logistics to helping distribute flyers and ensuring participants’ safety, the volunteer team worked tirelessly to ensure everything ran smoothly. We are grateful for having a diverse team from BIL Armenia, the largest healthcare students’ association in Armenia, to help us bring attention to this cause among the youth and to those who will one day become future medical professionals.
The presence of the deputy minister of health added further significance to the event, signaling the government’s support for such initiatives. Addressing the crowd briefly before the walk, the deputy minister highlighted the importance of public health awareness and commended ACA for their continued efforts in Armenia. This also signified positive feedback from the Armenian Ministry of Health regarding their involvement in present and future events and projects that we are excited to be announcing soon.
As the walk concluded at Republic Square, smiles were everywhere as participants left with a sense of accomplishment and hope, knowing that their efforts made a real difference. The Alzheimer’s Care Armenia team as well as the participants who joined have already expressed that they are looking forward to continuing this important tradition, making the Alzheimer’s Walk an annual fixture in Yerevan’s calendar and being a part of it in the many years to come. This year’s success was a reminder of what can be achieved when a community comes together with passion and purpose. Here’s to many more Alzheimer’s Walks to come, as we continue the fight against this debilitating disease. Stay tuned for next year, when we hope to make it an even bigger event!
